| WITH THE UNIFICATION OF JAPAN THERE BEGAN 250 years of peace. Artistic expressions virtually exploded out of the war years and flowered with an energy that had been subdued throughout the years of conflict. Several schools of painting emerged, primarily Tosa, Kano, and Rimpa. The Tosa School was the art of the Imperial Court. Kano was supported by the Samurai class, and Rimpa, the school of Sotatsu and Korin relied upon the the emerging wealth of the business class. |
