 Commentary

This is a typical Shohaku painting (when he is not illustrating a historical legend or delving into a religious context). The crane is a symbol of long life and a favorite subject in Japanese art. Here Shohaku adds his personal touches in the wild expression of the eyes and the loose brushstrokes.
