Commentary

In an immaculate poetic format, the artist has composed a waggish haiku to accompany this netsuke which reads: "Winter, two black crows, Sitting on a leafless branch, Their asses freezing."

A haiku is a 17-syllable Japanese poems structured in the three-line pattern of 5-7-5 syllables, an important form of poetry that remains popular in modern Japan and foreign countries.
