 Commentary

Birds, moon and waves is a joyous theme in Japanese painting, and you will find them displayed quite often.

- JDP

The moon shines above the billows and seven plovers fly between the space. It is a big scale composition. A depiction of flying plovers is accurate and effective. Billows add a sense of oppression to the painting. Color is added only to the plovers. This work implies Hoitsu's new direction by adding new ideas to the Korin's style. (Nakamura)
